Male or female fertility preservation is advised for patients that are about to undergo treatments potentially detrimental for their fertility, such as cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy or other kinds of treatment for benign disease.

In other occasions when patients decide to delay conception for social or professional reasons, egg, sperm and/or embryo freezing may be indicated.
